To The Studs Home Remodel Project
Weimar CA 95713
This local Weimar project was a complicated project that involved the mixing 3 distinct building projects together to create a cohesive open plan retirement home for the owners. The original house was a 2 story cabin built in the 1930’s had these wonderful 8”x10” redwood beams that we thought went through the entire house, unfortunately after the demolition of the existing ceiling we found there was no beams so we had to jack up the house and install all new beams with we wrapped in 1x redwood that will patina with age. The second challenge was the dinning room at the rear of the house that was added in the 1960, our planned called for expansive widows for a view of the rear yard, well we needed up re-framing this entire portion of the house for coded compliance. We started with 3 floors that where slightly out of alignment and ended up making the house flow with just just on level.
We took this house down to studs and remodeled it to the photos you see below. It has all new windows, doors flooring bathrooms, siding and painted in side and out. We installed a Trex “Select” deck with a staircase to the back yard. The deck is nestled into the rear of the house and for simplicity we used a black Fortress handrail system for that minimalistic feel.
For the house systems we upgraded the housing panel and installed two Fujitsu systems that allow the owners to heat and cool the house in zones allowing for more control of comfort. The new panel allowed code upgrades and additional expansion room for the future.
